Workers workers everywhere!

This morning my husband and daughter visited the site, to see what was being accomplished this morning.  My husband said there were people everywhere.  The siding crew was there, my contractor and his crew, and the guy doing to the excavating.   I am very interested to see their progress when I get off work today!

(I will post photos tonight of the completed jobs)!

Stress......

The house is supposed to be completed by the contractor on Thursday this week, however he told me yesterday, the vinyl for porch railings won't be in until Friday.   More waiting.......

We did get a sidewalk today, and our garage ceiling and the garage wall that is the house wall got drywall.  Tomorrow a siding crew is supposed to finish the siding on the garage and the window end of the basement, as well as install the soffit on the porch ceiling.

We still do not have water, we are waiting for the pressure tank to be installed by the well guy, and then we should be in business to do some major cleaning!

Yesterday we went shopping for a dining room table, we found a few we liked, but did not make a purchase.  The list of household needs is small, so at least we will be able to comfortably move in, whether moving in or the baby comes first we will have to wait and see!

Oh and the bank still wants more paperwork!

When is this going to be complete?

I have reached the point that it feels like we are never getting our house.  In the past week we have run into more than a few issues.  The rain on Monday, the electric company, the bank, the list goes on.

The electric company called for a locate last week, and the work order they sent said start date on the 23rd, well the 23rd came and  went and no electric.  My husband called yesterday and got 5 different stories from 5 different people that work there.  The first lady said we should set up an appointment, why on earth would they tell us now to set up an appointment???? It was requested weeks ago, and the engineer even spoke with my contractor making sure everything was correct.  The final person my husband spoke with said it was scheduled for next Tuesday, and she guaranteed it would be done that day if not before.  She also told him, make sure the main breaker is off in the house, and that no one had to be there when they hooked it up.  How does that make any sense?  Shouldn't they make sure it works before they just "hook it up" and leave.  I have a lot of frustration towards this company.

The bank is also just as difficult as the electric company.  I have sent them so much paperwork! I know that getting a loan takes a lot of work, but this is getting ridiculous.  The loan officer apologized to me today for all the requests, I am not exactly sure how that helps me, because now I still need to get more paperwork to send to them. Most of which I have no clue what they even need (or why the need it).

A little good news mixed in with all the not so great news, they framed the driveway yesterday and poured it this morning.  We can walk on it - but can't drive on it for two weeks!

Poured!

Still No Power makes for a Hot weekend

We thought we would have power by now, and that this weekend we could accomplish a lot of things! Well still no power for us!  Some city employees were out to the property to mark lines for the electric company, and the work order they received said July 23rd is the start date.  Crossing my fingers that we may have power by Tuesday evening! (trying not to get my hopes up- we have been waiting for the electrical company a long time).

The heating/cooling issue is still just that an issue.  We have quotes, quotes, and quotes, each one worse than the one before.  We have all the parts necessary to hook up the furnace and the air conditioner, yet it is hard to find someone that will hook it all up for under a fortune.  Hopefully we will find someone this week, and get everything hooked up!

On Friday my husband, daughter, and father in law, moved a bunch of boxes to our house. Saturday and Sunday we sorted the boxes and put away kitchen stuff, hung some clothes in the closets, and made a large mess of "stuff" in the rest of the house!

We completed the foyer area, grouted and sealed the tile, painted the closet, and put all the baseboard, and installed the transition bar to the laminate.  The foyer looks great! I love it!

We also completed some of the small projects we had left, hung our towel bars, toilet paper holders, shower rod, some valances, installed the vent pipe for the dryer, and put new stools together.  Overall things are progressing nicely, I am still on edge about getting everything completed, but at least now our stuff is mostly where it belongs.

This morning I woke up to pouring rain, not what I wanted this week, my contractor needs to complete the porch, pour the driveway, side the garage, and rain is not helping.

Days go by......

Today they are working on our front porch, we are getting an estimate for another company to hook-up the furnace, and getting the wire trenched in for our electric company to be able to come and hook us up.
Today it is 90+ outside, hoping we get some things accomplished today!

Turns out we are progressing nicely on the porch! This is what it looked like this evening!

Our electric company called today and wanted to speak with our contractor, we had to buy even more wire and an extra shut off since our panel box is so far from the meter.  (Note: the meter is only that far away because they are forcing us to put it on the side of the garage and not on the house where we wanted to put it) Thank you electric company for spending more of our money! :(

Wonderful.....

We finally got all of our paperwork from the surveyor to our electric company, so they can begin processing our request to get electric hooked-up. We were instructed exactly where the meter had to be placed on the house, or they would deny our service.  We then had to go purchase around 60 more feet of wire/conduit to get the box to where they are requiring it to be located.  Makes no sense to me how they can tell us where the box needs to be located, when they do not even come and read the meters any more anyways.  More money for wire, and now prolonged installment. My husband talked with them and they said the estimated day for hook-up is between now and August 5th! We were originally told that it would be 5-10 business days to be hooked-up, now it is more like 20! He also stated it could be as early as this week, but if your box is not installed and prepared for us, you will go to the bottom of the list.  Right now I am over 8 months pregnant, August 5th is cutting it pretty close to my due date and our "closing date" on our loan for our rate lock to stay in place. Needless to say my feelings toward this electric company are not good ones.

My contractor was going to start on the porch on Friday, however the rafters that had been ordered specifically for the home, were not specific to the home at all.  They were going to cover up the transom window on the front of the house, and cover the top of the front door.  If he moved them up to not cover the transom, they would cover up 6" of each of the dormers on the roof.  Now we are starting at square one again and my contractor is going to build each rafter.

Friday afternoon on my lunch break, my family and I ran to pick up the air conditioner unit we ordered it was a pretty straight forward transaction, we got the condenser unit, the a-coil, and the lines.  We loaded them up, I went to work, my husband and daughter headed to our house to unload it. This should be the end of this story, however they unloaded the condenser unit, opened the box to look at it, there was a huge dent in the top of the unit.  Just our luck, so my husband loaded it back up and drove the hour back to the place we purchased the unit to get it exchanged. He got it exchanged and unloaded.  No dent this time, he checked before he left their parking lot this time.

We are having a difficult time finding someone to hook up our heat ducts, we contacted a local company about a month ago to come and give us a quote to hook-up the components.  This is all we are looking for, a hook-up, we have all the components that we need, we just need someone to come and hook us up.  The guy finally came back to give us an estimate on Friday afternoon, he believes we should replace all of our heat ducts, because he does not believe they will work well enough, and his quote seemed very high.  We have scheduled for another local company to come and give us a quote to hook up the system, we will have to see what this quote comes back at, and go from there, it would be nice to have air (that is once we get our electric hooked up).

Over this weekend we completed the ceramic foyer entrance (minus the grout that will be completed tonight or tomorrow), finished the trimming, (baseboard & quarter round), we seamed the carpet, touched up paint, cleaned, cleaned, & cleaned.   We also moved a few loads of boxes to our house and are storing them in our attic.  I feel the need to be able to start un-packing and getting the house semi-organized before the baby comes.

It was a hot and tiring weekend, but we made progress inside the house. Now just hoping for progress outside the house this week!.

Garage!

Today is the day we get our garage framed!

My contractor called me this morning to ask a couple of questions about the garage, good sign, it means our garage is happening!

My husband drove past the house this morning and sent me these two pictures of the progress!  (these pictures are from 10:30 this morning)

I then received this photo at 3:00 this afternoon- we have a garage!

Progress...

Over the past four days, we have successfully finished all the laminate flooring in the house!  It looks great, the color matches better than I ever thought it would!

We finished the baseboard trim, we had to re-install the trim where we installed the laminate floor, and we had to cut and install the baseboard on the marriage line.  We also installed the laminate bars between the carpet/laminate and the laminate/vinyl floor.

We also got our marriage line doors finished - we had a lot of help on this, thankfully an experienced trimmer agreed to come and install them for us.  They look great, and they would have taken me a week to figure out and install.

We began installing our towel bars in the bathrooms, this isn't necessarily something you think about when laying out your bathrooms, I wish I would have thought about it a little more before now.  In our hall  bathroom, we installed the towel bar, it is where you would imagine a towel bar, it looks good.  I purchased towel bars that are 24" long, when your walls are 16" on center, it is difficult to find a stud for the towel bar to go into.  We found a stud for one side (thankfully), and the other end we had to use drywall anchors.  The master bathroom will be the same way, and the towel will be hanging closet to the bath tub, but not close to the shower (not the end of the world- but something to think about).  If I would have thought about this before had, we could have requested backers for where we planned on install the towel bars, the curtain rods, the shower rod, etc.  For a small fee, it would have been worth having the wood there to attach things to.

We are very close on the interior to being finished!  We still need to install ceramic tile in the foyer, and we still need to paint the foyer.  We need to install quarter round trim around the island and cabinets where we installed the laminate floor, and we have one carpet seam left to do and we should be pretty much finished inside.

The garage is scheduled to be built on Monday, and hopefully we can get the survey & electric company on the ball to get our electric going.

Slowly but surely

Our porch was poured on Wednesday morning, and our basement windows were installed!

Today a few things are being completed at our house.  Some of my family members have today off of work, so they plan to do some work at our house. :)  The laminate floors will be completed, the marriage line doors installed, and our contractor is supposed to come and cut the porch concrete.  This weekend I plan on finishing the trim work that needs complete, and then we can start moving some boxes into the attic & basement to start the organizing move process.  Next week our contractor has scheduled to build our garage, and hopefully that means our porch is next!

Here is a photo of our laminate flooring so far!

Positive Polly Today

Building a home is a very long drawn out process! It is very easy to get discouraged throughout the process, that is the point I reached yesterday.  Over it all, tired of waiting for things to happen, and no one acting like there is a deadline quickly approaching.  The loan paperwork is super confusing, I keep sending paperwork, they ask for more, I send more they ask for something that I don't even know what it is......

Today our contractor is going to pour our porch floor and put our basement windows in. Hopefully by the end of the day we have some more progress on the home!

Weekend Fun

This past weekend, beginning with Friday we were hopeful that the rain might stay away a few days, it didn't.  Thankfully a few things did get accomplished even with the rain.  Our garage floor was poured, and our contractor came back on Saturday and cut the lines, it looks great!  Our porch is formed and ready for concrete, it was supposed to be poured on Friday, however between the wait time for the cement truck and the weather forecast it got postponed.  Our basement windows are still not in, they don't exactly fit, so our contractor is going to have to do some modifying.

We took a day away from the project and enjoyed a family day at the zoo, it was a much needed mind break from all the construction and all the things we have going on.

Saturday morning we went to the house, we touched up paint, cleaned up construction mess, and started laying the laminate flooring in the living room. The flooring was going down okay, just taking longer to lay than we had anticipated.  We worked on the house until we had a Graduation Open house to attend.  Went to the open house, and returned to continue to work on the floor.  We got a little more assistance with the floor from my uncle and cousin when they stopped by, Saturday evening.  We worked on the floors until it was too dark to see! Electricity would be nice, hopefully we hear from the electric company this week!

Sunday we went shopping for a crib, some material to cover the newly painted chair for the babies room, a rug, paint for the foyer (last room that needs paint), and some cleaning supplies to get the awful stickers off the windows.   We got most of our list accomplished, minus the rug for the living room, decisions...decisions... we need to mark the floor where the rug will lay to decided what size of rug we need to buy.  We are also in search of bar stools for our two sitting areas around the island, and the bar area.

We decided to take the dresser we had painted to the house, along with the new crib, and some odds and ends we got for the house to the house in the evening, and to check out the laminate floor in the light rather than dark! :)   It is like our house has a rain cloud just sitting over it, and every time we get there it just starts pouring rain! We got the stuff in the house seconds before the downpour.

Hoping today brings us better luck with the weather, than the past few days.
